Interested? Here’s what you need to know.

What is SUNS Fitness?

SUNS Fitness is an online learning course immersing students and teachers within the training facilities of the Gold Coast SUNS Football Club as they learn the health and fitness and training exercise secrets of AFL and AFLW players.

Who is it designed for?

The course is designed for Year 7 - 8 HPE students and their teachers. It is aligned to the Australian curriculum, inclusive of the below content descriptors from the Health and Physical Education Learning Area.

Personal, Social and Community Health

- Practise and apply strategies to seek help for themselves or others (ACPPS072)

- Evaluate strategies to manage personal, physical and social changes that occur as they grow older

- Investigate and select strategies to promote health, safety and wellbeing (ACPPS073)

Movement and Physical Activity

- Participate in physical activities that develop health-related and skill-related fitness components, and create and monitor personal fitness plans (ACPMP082)

What content will the students explore?

Students will focus on Sport, Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour and fuse these areas with insights from Gold Coast SUNS players about their training programs, fitness components and the activities they participate in to build their fitness base.

How does it work? How long will it take?

Students can self-enrol into the course and teachers can access all student data from their class. The course is designed to be delivered over 6 x 60 minute lessons – 4 lessons online and 2 in the practical field.

What does it cost?

SUNS Fitness is a free program for participating schools.

Are their resources?

All students will receive a workbook that coincides with the online learning

What if I don’t schedule Australian Rules into my Year 7 & 8 curriculum?

Although we utilise SUNS players and training methods, the course challenges participants to think more broadly about application into their own health and fitness programs, recognise how the training methods can influence healthy habits and be utilised in any sport training program.

Do students receive a certificate of completion?

If they complete the entire course – yes. Teachers can support this by ensuring students complete each topic in class or catch up in spare time if they miss a week.

How will the Gold Coast SUNS support schools involved?

Teachers can contact sunsinschools@goldcoastfc.com.au for general inquiries or email our tech and learning partner Playbk Sports (support@playbksports.com) for any technology support. Schools who complete the course also have the opportunity to visit People First Stadium for an Experience day.
