Gold Coast SUNS livewire Brandon Matera has displayed his commitment to the club, by re-signing until the end of the 2014 season.
“I’m really happy to re-sign with the club for the next three seasons,” Matera said.
“I have enjoyed my time so far with the SUNS and I think that over the next couple of years it’s going to be an exciting place to be and I know I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
The son of former Fitzroy and West Coast player Wally Matera and nephew of former Eagles Peter and Phil Matera, Brandon played 12 matches and booted 15 goals with the GC SUNS, before his year ended prematurely through injury.
“It was a bit of a disappointing way to end my first year, I suppose I would have loved to have played every game, but I worked hard during my recovery and am hoping for an injury free season next year,“ Matera added..
A strong, quick and silkily skilled left footer who is equally comfortable scrapping hard in the midfield or conjuring goals as creative small forward, Matera was one of four GC SUNS players to be nominated as AFL Rising Stars in 2011.
Matera joined the GC SUNS as one of the twelve talented 17 year olds made available to the club under the AFL’s draft concessions.
Gold Coast SUNS, General Manager – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft said the club was pleased to sign Matera on a long term deal.
“We are thrilled that Brandon has signed with the club until the end of the 2014 season.”
“He is an extremely talented player who has been part of our system for a couple of season and we look forward to working with Brandon over the next few seasons to ensure he fulfils his potential,” Ashcroft said.
Matera put pen to paper, as GC SUNS 2011 Members are set to renew their memberships for next season when the GC SUNS 2012 Membership campaign is launched tomorrow.
