Gold Coast SUNS captain Gary Ablett will be looking to extend his remarkable run of All Australian team representation at tonight's 2011, Four N Twenty Australian awards ceremony in Melbourne tonight.
Just a week after receiving recognition from the Gold Coast SUNS as the Clubs inaugural Club Champion, Ablett will be looking to add to his list of All Australian honours.
Previously selected in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 (vice-captain). Ablett played 20 games for the Gold Coast SUNS in 2011 for 304 kicks, 45 marks, 301 handballs (eighth in the AFL), averaging 15.2 kicks, 2.2 marks, 15.0 handballs. Seventh in the AFL in total disposals. 18 Goals 17 Behinds. 133 Clearances, 99 Inside 50m, 62 Rebound 50m.
Ablett's achievements even more remarkable considering he Captained a young side through their inaugural AFL Premiership season, the team registering just three Premiership wins.
Reigning Premiers Collingwood and Abletts former team Geelong each had six players nominated in the forty man All Australian squad with the twenty two man team to be announced tonight.
The All Australian selection panel is: Andrew Demetriou (chairman), Adrian Anderson, Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Danny Frawley, Glen Jakovich, Leigh Matthews and Mark Ricciuto.
