It was the Gold Coast SUNS who turned the coaches’ heads in Saturday’s clash against Sydney Swans, with SUNS taking out the full allotment of AFLCA votes in the 14 point win.

Jarrod Witts continues to be one of the form ruckmen in the competition and the weekend was no different, scoring 10 out of a possible 10 points for the match.

Votes were split three ways when it came to who impressed second, with David Swallow, Wil Powell and Matt Rowell all finishing with four votes apiece.

A trademark performance saw Swallow amass 24 disposals, seven marks, seven tackles, eight inside 50s and six clearances.

Meanwhile, Powell didn’t miss a beat on return from a hamstring injury, holding Isaac Heeney to 13 touches while providing valuable run for his own side.

Of Rowell’s 16 possessions, 15 were contested with the midfielder also winning seven clearances for the game.

Brayden Fiorini stepped up through the middle, while Sam Collins’ ability to quell Lance Franklin earned the pair 3 votes each.

The SUNS ability to spread the load across the playing group was further emphasised by Izak Rankine and Brandon Ellis both earning the coaches’ singular votes this week – meaning in total eight players received recognition for their Round 8 performance.
