The Gold Coast SUNS wish to thank Sarah Perkins for her contributions to the club over the last two years.

Perkins has informed the club of her decision to sign with an AFLW expansion club for the upcoming NAB AFLW Premiership Season.

Joining the SUNS in the 2020 NAB AFLW Draft with pick 23, Perkins played 15 games in her two seasons for the club and kicked nine goals.

“Although it’s disappointing to be losing Sarah for next season, we are understanding of her decision and want to wish her the best for next season,” SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said.

“Sarah has brought some invaluable experience to our group since joining the club and has had a really substantial impact on our group and particularly the ability to share her football knowledge with the young players coming through.

“We know Sarah will be missed and she will always be welcome at the Austworld Centre.”

Perkins said she would leave the SUNS with many happy memories.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to my teammates and all the members and fans of the SUNS who have embraced me with open arms while I’ve been at the club,” Perkins said.

“A massive thanks also has to go to the SUNS and in particular Fiona Sessarago who gave me the chance to come up and continue my football career.

“I’d also like to thank Cameron Joyce and the coaching staff, as well as the medical and support staff for keeping me out on the park and getting me back to playing my best footy.

“I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to be closer to family and hopefully can return to Metricon Stadium for a game in the future.”

Perkins notched her 30th AFLW game with the SUNS in 2022 and now sits at 35 career games.

The Gold Coast SUNS were the first AFLW club to draft the 28-year-old. She played one season with Melbourne as an injury replacement player, and three seasons at the Adelaide Crows after signing as a free agent ahead of the first season of AFLW.
