Gold Coast SUNS defender Annabel Kievit will be unavailable for the remainder of the 2026 season, after suffering an ACL injury.
Kievit was taken from the field in the final term against St Kilda on Sunday evening, with subsequent scans confirming the 21-year-old had ruptured her right anterior cruciate ligament.
“Unfortunately, Annabel has sustained a ruptured ACL in her right knee and will require surgery. We’ll consult with specialists in the coming days,” Gold Coast SUNS AFLW Physiotherapist Angela Flack said.
Gold Coast SUNS General Manager of Women’s Football Erin Phillips added, “We’re incredibly disappointed for Annabel. She has started this season strong and has been real pillar for our team and our backline.
“Our priority now is supporting Annabel through every stage of her recovery and we look forward to seeing her return.”
In positive news, Charlotte Wilson and Mikayla Nurse are recovering well. Wilson is out of her moon boot and has returned to running while Nurse is now expected to be available in the short-term.
SUNS skipper Lucy Single will also be available for Saturday’s QClash after a conservative approach was taken heading into Round 7.
