The Gold Coast SUNS are excited to welcome forward Courtney Jones to the club for NAB AFLW Season Seven.

In exchange for Jones’ services, the SUNS have traded Carlton pick 49 in the upcoming NAB AFLW Draft.

Jones joins the club after playing nine games for Carlton since being recruited with pick 59 in the 2019 NAB AFLW Draft.

The 21-year-old kicked eight goals in her nine games for the Blues in 2022.

Gold Coast SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said Jones would be an important acquisition to the club’s forward mix.

“We’ve been really deliberate in our approach to improve our list and are rapt to have someone of Courtney’s calibre joining us for next season,” Sessarago said.

“She is a fantastic person and brings exceptional ball-use, speed and outside run which we identified will complement our side.

“We look forward to welcoming Courtney to the club and seeing her on the field in Gold Coast colours next season.”

Jones said she was thrilled to be joining an exciting and talented group of players at the Gold Coast SUNS.

“I’m really excited to move up to the Gold Coast and join the SUNS for next season,” Jones said.

“It seems like there’s a really talented group of players at the club so I can’t wait to meet all my new teammates and get stuck into the pre-season.”

Jones becomes the fourth addition to the SUNS in the AFLW Sign and Trade Period after the club also recruited mature-age players Georgia Clayden, Gabrielle Biedenweg-Webster and Krystal Scott earlier this week.

The AFLW Sign & Trade Period ends on Wednesday June 8, with the NAB AFLW Draft scheduled for Wednesday June 29.
