The Gold Coast SUNS have fallen short in its final pre-season hitout ahead of AFLW Season 7, going down to Geelong at the Austworld Centre Oval on Saturday afternoon.

The damage on the scoreboard was done in the second quarter with the Cats kicking five goals to none for the term before eventually running out 35-point winners, despite a much stronger showing from the hosts after half-time.

The SUNS responded to Head Coach Cameron Joyce's half-time message to increase their intent, limiting the Cats ability to transition quickly and kicking two of the games' three goals after the main break.

Gold Coast's first major came on the back of some terrific combination play between Kalinda Howarth and Jamie Stanton with Annise Bradfield slotting a wonderful running goal in the last quarter as she continues to push for a return to AFLW football in Season 7.

Lauren Bella and Jac Dupuy showed they'll be a formidable ruck combination to contend for opposition sides this year, earning the SUNS midfield plenty of first ball.

The fixture also marked a first outing in SUNS colour for Tasmanian product Claire Ransom.

The SUNS turn their attention now the Round 1 clash against North Melbourne at Blundstone Arena on Saturday, August 27.
