Three SUNS have been ruled out for Round 23, while another will be a test for the match against North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium this weekend.

Sam Day sustained a knee injury in the Round 22 clash against Geelong, with scans this week confirming damage to his meniscus.

“Sam has injured his meniscus in his left knee so unfortunately that will mean surgery today to explore the injury further and address it in the most appropriate manner, so Sam will miss the game this weekend,” GC SUNS Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull told the Qscan Injury Update.

Small forward Izak Rankine will be a test for the match against North Melbourne after leaving the field on the weekend with a shoulder injury.

“Izak had an incident in the game on Saturday and was unable to finish the game, Izak will be a test this week and we’ll have to see how he gets through training this week,” Bull said.

SUNS leader Nick Holman will also miss the last game of the season with a back injury.

“Nick unfortunately had an incident where he got a hit on his upper back and he has a small fracture in his thoracic spine,” Bull said.

“We’re obviously taking a conservative approach with Nick and looking after that so he can complete the off-season program and move into next year without any interruptions.”

Rory Atkins has also shown symptoms of delayed concussion this week after the VFL victory over Southport on the weekend.

“Rory unfortunately had an incident where he hit his head and he’s had some delayed concussion symptoms so he’ll miss this week’s game and will go through the concussion protocols moving forwards,” Bull said.
