Gold Coast SUNS forward Tom Lynch says finals may be on the cards in the next couple of seasons if the exciting list can stick together.

Lynch, who committed to the GC SUNS until the end of 2014 late last week, said he never contemplated looking elsewhere.

Playing 13 games in the club's inaugural season, 19-year-old Lynch emerged as one of the team's most promising youngsters in the toughest of positions.

He roamed between full-forward and centre half-forward, and kicked 15 goals while often attracting the best opposition defender.

The quietly spoken giant said it was good timing to finalise the contract deal prior to the season.

"I can go into the season with some confidence knowing I've got a few more years at the club. It's good security," Lynch said.

"I always wanted to sign on for another couple of years. It's a good environment up here, I think we've got a good group and if we stick together we'll improve and hopefully we can play finals in a year or two."

Lynch was drafted from Dandenong in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft and has shown a strong set of hands, good football nous and an ability to run like few forwards his size can.

In the pre-season he has put on a couple of kilograms of muscle and, most notably at Gold Coast SUNS sessions, has become far more vocal in the group, telling teammates where to run and demanding the ball.

"The coaches have pushed me to become more vocal and want the whole group to become more vocal," he said.

"Obviously this year I'm a lot more confident, whereas last year I was just trying to find my feet, so I wasn't being vocal at all. I was just trying to figure out stuff.

"I think it's just confidence and knowing the game plan a lot better this year than I did last year and having the confidence to speak up at training."

Lynch said he hoped to continue developing a partnership with Sam Day and Charlie Dixon after all three struggled to get on the field at the same time in 2011.

The SUNS trained on Metricon Stadium on Monday for the first time in a week after heavy rain finally relented on the Gold Coast.
