The Gold Coast SUNS could be boosted by the return of two players ahead of the Round 14 match against Carlton at the MCG on Sunday.

Defender Connor Budarick is in line to make his return to football after almost 12 months out of the game rehabilitating from an ACL injury.

It was Budarick’s second ACL injury in as many years, and GC SUNS Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull praised Budarick’s resilience to get back on the field.

“Connor has trained really strongly with the group over the last month, he’s ticked all his markers and will be available for to play this weekend,” Bull told the Qscan Injury Update.

“He’s made every post a winner in his rehab and has attacked everything and worked really hard.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with how he is – he’s super confident, he’s been training really well and has ticked his markers so we’re really proud of him.”

Sean Lemmens has also overcome a hamstring injury sustained in Round 10 and will be available for selection this weekend.

Lachie Weller has been managed carefully as he battles swelling in his knee, with the important half-back pushing to return in two to three weeks.

“We’ve just been managing a bit of swelling in Lachie’s knee and due to his history we’ve been really cautious with how we’ve ramped him up from that,” Bull said.

“He’s been running really well and his strength markers are all excellent, he just needs another couple of weeks of conditioning before he’s available to return to play.”

Bull also provided an update on Touk Miller, with the co-captain expected to return in four weeks from his meniscus injury.

“Touk is doing really well, he’s a great professional and is flying in his rehab,” Bull said.

“He’s been running now for last week and this week and we’re progressing him through those phases at the moment.”

In the VFL, Lloyd Johnston sustained a facial injury which will see him sidelined for this weekend’s match against Northern Bullants.
