The Gold Coast SUNS are pleased to announce rising trio Lachie Gulbin, Avery Thomas and Koby Coulson have all penned one-year contract extensions.

The SUNS have been quick to secure the services of the trio, who form part of an exciting cohort of young talent to have joined the club in recent seasons.

Gulbin, who has played three AFL games since debuting late in 2025, has penned a deal committing him to the club until 2027 while Thomas and Coulson have added an additional year to existing contracts, now locked in until 2028.

GC SUNS List Manager Kall Burns says all three players have quickly made their marks.

“Lachie, Avery and Koby have made strong impressions since joining our club and we’re thrilled to have extended their contracts by a further season,” Burns said.

“All three players are in the early stages of their AFL careers. We’re excited to see them continue to develop under Damien Hardwick and play important roles for our club in the years ahead.”

Gulbin is among 16 StreetSmarts SUNS Academy products on the SUNS list having joined the club during the 2024 Rookie Draft. The Burleigh Bombers product has twice featured at AFL level in 2026, including a career-best performance in Round 4 against Melbourne, highlighted by a game-high eight score involvements from 22 disposals.

Affectionately known on the Gold Coast as ‘Birdman’, Thomas is a highly-versatile rebounding defender who was the sole draftee from Tasmania in last year’s draft.

Hailing from Launceston, Thomas boasts an elite athletics background before turning his attention to football as a 16-year-old.

Coulson is the reigning Male Academy Player of the Year, first joining the StreetSmarts SUNS Academy in 2018.

The Southport and Broadbeach Cats junior established himself as one of the finest young midfielders during his draft year before being selected with Pick 46 in the 2025 Draft.

All three players have also impressed throughout the opening stages of the SUNS VFL campaign and become the latest players to commit to the club, following multi-year deals penned earlier this month by Bodhi Uwland and Lachie Weller.
