A second straight VFL meeting between the Gold Coast SUNS and Sandringham Zebras has remarkably finished in a draw following a thrilling ending to Sunday morning’s clash at RSEA Park.
Both sides had periods of sustained momentum throughout a topsy-turvy encounter with the hosts kicking the game’s final three goals, including a major after the full-time to siren, to secure 11.6 (72) to 10.12 (72) draw.
Four consecutive goals for the SUNS turned an 11-point deficit into a 19-point lead heading into time-on in the final term before the Zebras stormed home.
Jy Farrar led the way on the scoreboard for the SUNS, kicking a goal in each of the first, third and final quarters with Miles Enders the only other multiple goalkickers for the visitors.
Alex Sexton (28 disposals, one goal), Sean Lemmens (26 touches), Alex Davies (26) and Ben Jepson(25) were the major ball winners while Leo Lombard’s return to action continued with the 18-year-old accruing 21 disposals to go with plenty of time on ball.
The SUNS now return to People First Stadium, hosting 10th-place Coburg next Saturday morning.
