It’s all coming down to the wire with a host of spots inside the AFLW’s Top 8 up for grabs heading into the final round of the home & away season.

Rhyce Shaw’s side have confirmed its spot in November for a third time with a club-record eight wins from its 11 games to date, however where the SUNS will find themselves following the final weekend remains undecided.

SUNS Media have broken down the possibilities and key matches to keep an eye on this weekend.

Current ladder

The SUNS will enter Round 12 in fourth position, clear of a logjam including Carlton, the Western Bulldogs and Sydney Swans on percentage. Melbourne remain within a game in third position, however the Demons also boast a significant percentage gap on the SUNS.

Where can the SUNS finish & where would those games be?

Gold Coast can plausibly finish anywhere between 4th and 7th position.

4th: Would secure the club’s first ever top four berth, and set up a Qualifying Final in Victoria against the eventual minor premier in Week 1. A home final would then follow in either Week 2 or Week 3.

5th or 6th: Would set-up a do-or-die Elimination Final at home in Week 1.

7th: A do-or-die final on the road against the side who finishes sixth would await.

Where do the SUNS finish?

That’s the question. Only 0.2% separates Gold Coast from Carlton, and a further 3% back is the Western Bulldogs. If all three sides earn the same results this weekend, it would come down to percentage on who earns a top four berth.

Sydney remain level with all three sides, but their inferior percentage would likely require a Swans win and a side above them to slip this weekend to progress up from their current spot in seventh.

Key games to watch

Importantly, the SUNS fate is controllable through its own match up at Henson Park on Sunday afternoon against the GWS Giants. The Friday night match between Geelong and the Western Bulldogs, Saturday evening's duel between the Blues and Lions as well as the final match of the round in Perth between Fremantle and the Sydney Swans could prove pivotal as well.
