The Gold Coast SUNS are once again joining the fight against motor neuron disease (MND), hosting its own Big Freeze event at People First Stadium.
Following the wildly successful first edition of the SUNS Big Freeze, in collaboration with FightMND, the SUNS are welcoming a star-studded list of VIPs to take the plunge to its home ground on Tuesday, June 3 to raise donations and awareness for the cause.
The list of VIPs, which will be confirmed ahead of the event, will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Spida Everitt, Ian Healy, Ali Day and Damien Hardwick in volunteering to take the plunge into an ice cold Plungie Quad, Plungie’s brand new pool designed to work perfectly as a cold plunge pool, all in the name of charity.
Hosted in the Fifth Quarter Bar at People First Stadium, the SUNS are inviting the wider Gold Coast community to come down and join the fight alongside FightMND with the opportunity to also meet their favourite SUNS AFL and AFLW players.
Gold Coast SUNS CEO & FightMND Board Member Mark Evans, who was a VIP at the 2024 event, says the Big Freeze 11 campaign is an important cause for the AFL industry to get behind.
“The Big Freeze is always an important event on the AFL calendar and the support from the football community over the past 10 years has been incredible,” Evans said.
“We want to play our role in making a difference and fighting the beast that is motor neuron disease. We are extremely proud to once again be hosting our own Gold Coast Big Freeze to help raise valuable funds and awareness for the cause.
“We are encouraging our members and fans to join us at People First Stadium for this terrific community event. Stay tuned to our social media channels for more information on how to get involved and who’s taking the plunge this year.”
FightMND CEO Matt Tilley said, “We’re super pumped to have the Gold Coast SUNS gearing up again to host their own Big Freeze. The SUNS are usually the enemy of ice baths – but on this occasion it feels like they’re besties - we couldn’t be more aligned.
“It’s a very special year for us having our co-founder Neale Daniher as the Australian of the Year. The footy community is in our DNA, and to have the SUNS get around us with such a star-studded event is brilliant.”
