In a wet, windy and wild contest at People First Stadium on Saturday afternoon, a number of SUNS players tried to slip and slide their way into contention for the highly coveted Austworld Player of the Round.

Leo Lombard had the crowd on their feet in the second quarter with the homegrown talent showcasing what the Streetsmarts SUNS Academy helped him develop, a swift set of skills from stoppage to snap a checkside goal from a tight angle. After high-fiving every single SUNS Player on the field, the enigmatic small forward continued the celebrations as he left the field of play for a spell.  Does the debutant deserve your vote for the POTR.

The skipper, Noah Anderson, led from the front after securing the player of the round honours last week, continuing his rich vein of form. 39 disposals, 12 clearances, 840m gained and eight score involvements if you don’t mind, the midfielder was involved in everything today.

His midfield counterpart Matthew Rowell thrived in perfect conditions for the in an under ball winner. 27 disposals, with 15 of those contested to go with a game high 13 tackles, a great all round performance from the bull, but, is it enough to earn your Austworld Player of the Round.

As part of his SUNS game high three goals, Sam Flanders had SUNS fans up and about late in the fourth quarter with a contender for Goal of the Year. When the ball spilled into the pocket from a forward 50 stoppage, with an almost impossible angle, Flanders soccered the footy over the Dockers defender’s reach and through, giving the SUNS a sniff late. It’s surely one of the goals of the week, it should be in contention for Goal of the Year, but is his performance enough to get him over the line in the voting this week for Player of the Round?

Mac Andrew returned to some of his best form today with 20 disposals, a SUNS high six marks in tough, wet conditions and eight intercept possessions.

Up against the ruck duo of Jackson & Darcy, Jarrod Witts continued his strong form, with a game high 40 hit outs and five tackles in a strong performance.

But it doesn’t matter what we think, this coveted award comes down to what you think as fans. Who gets your vote this week in the Austworld Player of the Round.
