The SUNS went down by three points in a gritty VFL contest against Geelong 10.12 (72) to 11.3 (69), battling through wet conditions at GMHBA Stadium.

Returning from injury, versatile forward Jy Farrar was a standout all game, lighting up the scoreboard with back-to-back majors in the opening term before adding one in each quarter to round out a dominant display.

In a slippery second quarter, Gold Coast delivered three goals from Farrar, Ethan Read and Alex Sexton before the Cats clawed their way ahead with a 13-point lead at the main break.

The rain poured and so did the pressure in the third term, as Geelong marked their territory and pushed the margin out to a game-high 36 points. Yet, the SUNS still managed to shine with two late goals from Malcolm Rosas Jnr and Farrar.

When it mattered most, the SUNS fired up with four unanswered goals in a thrilling final quarter, cutting the margin to just three points before the siren.

Ned Moyle (24 disposals), Rosas (23) and Connor Budarick (23) were impactful across the field, amassing a combined 70 disposals. Alex Davies and Koby Coulson kept the Cats away from the yarn ball, laying eight and seven tackles respectively.
