Young SUNS AFLW utility Heidi Talbot has been placed on the inactive list for the upcoming AFLW season.
The StreetSmarts SUNS Academy product hailing from Cairns will undergo shoulder surgery which will see her sidelined for the 2025 campaign.
Talbot joined the SUNS with the club’s second selection in the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft as one of five StreetSmarts SUNS Academy graduates selected by the club.
GC SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said, ”It is obviously a disappointing setback for Heidi and what’s important now is that we wrap our arms around her and provide all the support she needs throughout her recovery.
“She has made an immediate impression within our club this year and it’s been a really promising start to her AFLW career throughout pre-season training. We’re looking forward to seeing her return to action in 2026, and hopefully many years beyond.”
Talbot is the second SUN to be placed on the inactive list for 2025 alongside Daisy D’Arcy (ACL).
The SUNS take on Geelong in its final practice match this Saturday night at People First Stadium, following the club’s AFL match against Richmond. The club’s 2025 AFLW season gets underway against the West Coast Eagles in Perth on Thursday, August 14.
