The SUNS are ready to rise and shine in Round 3, after a tough loss against the Sydney Swans last Saturday.

Already two games into just a 12-game AFLW season, the Gold Coast is eager to learn and lock in for their next challenge against Yartapuulti.

Key defender Meara Girvan reflected on Round 2 as a major learning opportunity for the young Gold Coast side.

“I'm not sugarcoating that one, we got outworked by a better team on the day and we didn't play our brand that we've been training which is a bit disappointing,” Girvan reflected.

“We've just got to take it as it is. We're still on a journey as a team; new coach, new system. So, it's important that we just continue pushing forward.

“We're learning, we're growing and that (game) will be a huge learning that we'll take into the rest of the season.”

The 2025 leader is confident that the Gold Coast is more capable than Saturday afternoon’s performance and revealed that Rhyce Shaw encouraged accountability in this morning’s review.

“We've sunk our teeth in pretty heavily to the review, we know where we need to go to work and we've got a huge amount of belief,” Girvan affirmed.

“Rhyce is a very intuitive coach, so he cares about us deeply. He's also not afraid to be completely honest.

“Shawry puts a lot of onus on the players to make sure that we're assessing our own performance - it can't just be on the coaches. So, as a team and as players, we've actually self-ran our own reviews, and we've probably got a little bit more out of that.”

The SUNS will look to turn things around and play their system when they take on Yartapuulti in Adelaide this Saturday, August 30.
