The Gold Coast SUNS will be donning the famous pink guernsey for their home AFLW clash with Adelaide on Sunday.

The pink strip was worn four times during the SUNS AFL season, but this will be the first time for the AFLW team.

SUNS midfielder Claudia Whitfort says the team are looking forward to running out in pink for the first time.

“I love the pink, it brings a fierceness to the group,” she said.

Last time out, the SUNS were downed by Carlton at IKON Park in Melbourne after the Blues took hold on the match in the second half.

After missing both the Round 1 and Round 3 matches with injury, Whitfort has earned a hint of consistency having played in both of the last two matches, including a season-best 28 disposals in Round 4.

Whitfort says the challenge for the SUNS will be maintaining the competitive edge for the full four quarters and is looking forward to returning home to People First Stadium.

“We’re disappointed we didn’t get the result on the weekend. We challenged Carlton for the first half really, it’s just about maintaining the rage for the four quarters,” she said.

“We love playing on a Sunday arvo, no AFL finals footy on, so hopefully we get a big crowd there. We can’t wait to play in front of the locals.”

Adelaide has been a formidable opponent over the years, winning a premiership in the AFLW’s inaugural season, and two further premierships in 2019 and 2022.

lighThe Crows are 3-2 after the first five rounds, while the SUNS have a 1-4 record.

“We know Adelaide’s a tough side, they’re very strong, it’s going to be a tough weekend,” Whitfort added.

The first bounce is Sunday, 22 September at 5:05pm. Gates open at 4:15pm and SUNS fans can grab limited pink collection merchandise from the SUNS shop.
