Beachgoers and holidaymakers were treated to a sand sculpture celebrating Saturday’s NAB AFL Women’s QClash at People First Stadium.

Head of AFL Queensland and International Trisha Squires, Gold Coast SUNS’ Jacqui Dupuy and Brisbane Lions’ Taylor Smith gathered at Broadbeach to take a look.

On Saturday the two Queensland clubs will face each other for the first time in Season 10 in the annual derby.

Squires encouraged all AFL fans to head down to People First Stadium to watch Queensland talent on display.

“On the Lions and SUNS AFLW lists, in each team, more than half of the players started their Australian rules football journey here in Queensland,” she said.

“We want to see a lot of fans come down on Saturday to watch some fantastic footy.

“It’s a fierce rivalry and we can’t wait to see who wins. See you at the W!”

Dupuy said the SUNS were chasing the win on Saturday.

“QClash is one game we are always marking in the calendar as something we want to get after,” she said.

“It’s an exciting week and we’re looking forward to the game.”

While Smith has experienced QClash as both a SUNS and Lions player.

“I’ve been on both sides of it and I’ve definitely seen the rivalry build,” she said.

She encouraged Brisbane supporters to travel down to People First Stadium for the game over the long weekend.

“It would be great to have our Brisbane supporters come down, I know they’re still buzzing from the men’s success, so why not carry that energy into our QClash.

QClash gets underway this Saturday October 4 at 5:05pm, with gates open from 4:15pm. The first 800 entrants are entitled to a free upgrade to The Lounge and $2 Footy Snacks vouchers are up for grabs for the first 1000 entrants.
