The Gold Coast SUNS have named their VFL team to take on Werribee in Round One of the Smithy’s VFL season at People First Stadium on Sunday.

Four SUNS, including Alex Sexton, Jy Farrar, Caleb Graham and Ned Moyle, will run out in Tate Kaesler’s side who also featured in the 2023 Grand Final in which the Gold Coast defeated the Tigers 17.10 (112) to14.9 (93) to claim its first premiership cup.

As the Gold Coast’s 2026 VFL captain, Sexton will lead out five StreetSmarts SUNS Academy graduates among 16 AFL listed players to take on the Tigers.

Sexton will be joined by fellow SUNS legend David Swallow in the side.

Off-season recruit Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and 2025 draftees Avery Thomas, Dylan Patterson and Koby Coulson are set to take the field for Round 1. Sunday marks the first official VFL hitout for Ugle-Hagan and Thomas in SUNS colours.

Max Knobel will also make a long-awaited return after missing a substantial amount of the 2025 season through injury.

Catch the Smithy’s VFL action with free entry through Gate 5 at People First Stadium from 10:30am AEST - no tickets required. Free parking is available in the red carpark, with food and beverages available at the Hinterland Outlet.
