Season Review: Aaron Young

     - Aaron Young

Season recap:

Young played all 22 games in his debut year in SUNS colours and was used in a variety of roles. He played most of his footy in the forward line but was also versatile enough to rotate through the midfield on occasion. He kicked 20 goals in total for the year, the second-highest amount behind Alex Sexton (28).

Best performances:

Young had an outstanding debut with 27 disposals and a goal in difficult conditions up in Cairns. He also was a pivotal player in the historic win over Sydney with four crucial goals.

Moment of the season:

It has to be his match-sealer against the Swans. Young played it to perfection, waiting out the back for the crumbs and squeezing through a tight goal under pressure.

What’s next?:

Young currently sits on 98 career games, so his first goal will be ensuring he hits the 100-game milestone in Round 2 next year. After that, he will be hoping to build on his 2018 campaign by continuing to hit the scoreboard and playing his role in the team.

From the coach:

“Youngy is another one of those players who was brought in to be given more opportunities at senior level and he really delivered for us this year. His versatility was important in the sense that he was able to play both high forward and hit the scoreboard as well as play as a pressure forward and also rotate through the midfield. For him to finish second in the goal-kicking this year is a great result.” - Stuart Dew
