Gold Coast SUNS rising star Leo Lombard has penned a multi-year extension with the club, locking him in until the end of the 2030 AFL season.
The Burleigh Bombers product was previously signed until the end of 2027 after being taken with Pick 9 in the 2024 Telstra AFL Draft, with the SUNS thrilled to have secured Lombard’s services for an additional three seasons
“We’re thrilled to extend Leo, a former Burleigh Bomber and Gold Coast SUNS Academy graduate,” GC SUNS List Manager Kall Burns said.
“Leo has taken significant steps forward in his development throughout pre-season and the early stages of 2026 and we’re excited to see him continue to progress in the years ahead.”
Renowned as a contested beast with a rapid turn of speed, Lombard has played 13 matches for the SUNS since debuting in Round 12, 2025.
After taking out the club’s pre-Christmas 2km time trial with a personal best time, Lombard is yet to miss a match in his second season on the SUNS list, kicking five goals from nine games and earning a Rising Star nomination in Opening Round.
He is the fifth StreetSmarts SUNS Academy product to have penned a contract extension so far this season, following Bodhi Uwland, Lachie Weller, Lachie Gulbin and Koby Coulson.
The Gold Coast SUNS will be bound by a single thread of red, with New Balance & Belgravia Apparel becoming the club’s Official AFLW Apparel Partner.
