The Gold Coast SUNS kicked off Queensland Day’s Mega Round of Sport with a 17-point win over the Brisbane Lions at People First Stadium.
In what was his maiden QClash, SUNS forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (four goals) made his return to action known, putting the SUNS on the board early before StreetSmarts SUNS Academy talent Archie Hill (two goals, 23 disposals) followed suit with his first of two majors on debut.
The SUNS steamed ahead in the second term with a host of goal scorers including Jake Rogers (one goal), Asher Eastham (two goals), Hill and Ugle-Hagan extending the lead to 35 points at the main break.
Gold Coast put on a dominant peformance to keep the Lions at bay and ultimately widen the margin to a game-high 53 points in the third term. Young SUN Beau Addinsall lead the way with six tackles to go with 24 disposals alongside defender Charlie Ballard who finished with nine intercept possessions and nine contested possessions.
The Lions roared back in the final quarter, scoring six unanswered goals, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap the SUNS comfortably secured.
Amassing a staggering 40 disposals, dashing winger Sam Chlohesy was a man on mission in the SUNS QClash 12.13 (85) to 9.14 (68) victory.
Gold Coast will be eager to fire up SUNS fans and secure another win in next week’s double header against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday, June 13. Catch all the action live and free across AFL.com.au and the AFL Live Official App.
