The Gold Coast SUNS have come from 30 points down to record its third win of the VFL season with Casey Demons on Sunday at People First Stadium.
The Demons led by five goals midway through the second term, but it was the SUNS who remarkably led the majority of the match after the main break to take out a 15.11 (101) to 14.8 (92) win.
Several of the SUNS’ experience heads stepped up to the plate with the game on the line in the second half, led by the likes of Nick Holman (36 disposals), Ben Jepson (one goal, 34 disposals), Alex Davies (31 disposals) and Jarrod Witts (38 hitouts).
The SUNS got ascendancy through clearance off the back of stone ruck work from both Witts and Max Knobel, and made the most of their chances going forward particularly in the final term to hold off the Demons.
Jepson kicked the first goal of the final term and the SUNS wouldn’t surrender that lead until the final siren with Caleb Lewis also rounding out his afternoon with one of his four goals in the final quarter.
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan had two goals before half-time, and joined Lucas Snowball, who kicked an important goal in the final term, as multiple goalkickers for the SUNS.
StreetSmarts SUNS Academy graduate Kalani White had an afternoon to remember for the Demons as well, kicking four goals on his return to the Gold Coast.
