Gold Coast’s Senior Assistant coach Dean Solomon has outlined the challenges facing the team this weekend against North Melbourne.

Challenge #1: Four-quarter effort

The SUNS were competitive for two and a half quarters against the Giants but were disappointing in the final term.

“We feel for the majority of this year we’ve been really strong in pressuring opposition, especially around the scramble or stoppage situation,” Solomon said.

“Predominately for this fourth quarter (against GWS) it was all too easy.

“What it does do is puts a very narrow focus straight to North Melbourne on Saturday at Metricon Stadium.”

Challenge #2: North’s midfield

North Melbourne have one of the most hard-at-it midfield units in the competition with the likes of Jack Ziebell, Ben Cunnington, Shaun Higgins and Jed Anderson.

“North Melbourne have a new coach and played really well against Richmond,” Solomon said.

“What was really clear with North Melbourne really early in the game was their big-bodied midfield and their will to hunt the opposition.

“That hunt in around the inner circle was really impressive and that’s a real big challenge on the back of our last quarter against the Giants.”
