Promising young footballer Alexia Hamilton becomes Gold Coast’s fourth draftee at the NAB AFLW Draft after hearing her name read out at pick 38 overall.

The 19-year-old hails from Canberra and plays for the same local club as fellow Canberra SUNS draftee Hannah Dunn, the Queanbeyan Tigers.

Hamilton represented NSW/ACT in the 2018 NAB AFLW National Championships where she won All Australian honours.

She played for the GWS Giants in the 2018 Winter Series and was also named on the All Stars team for the AFLW Women’s Under 18 State of Origin exhibition match later that year.

Hamilton nominated for the 2018 AFLW draft in the New South Wales pool but was overlooked by the GWS Giants in her draft year.

She played in Queanbeyan’s AFL Canberra premiership team earlier this year and put a strong case forward to be drafted with her form at state-league level.

“We’re excited to see what Lexi can become for us next year,” AFLW Senior Coach David Lake told SUNS Media.

“She’s a genuine target up forward and has good skills which helps her to set up plays.”

Hamilton is a known goalkicker who also has a high football IQ and knows how to punish defenders.
