Construction of the Gold Coast SUNS new Altitude Room is well underway.
The Altitude Room, located at the GC SUNS Carrara headquarters, will help simulate the kind of high altitude conditions which improves athletic performance, enhances player training and speeds up post-performance and injury recovery.
Although altitude simulators are a common sight in elite sporting clubs these days, Gold Coast SUNS Altitude Room includes an added extra that ill make it the first of its kind in Australia.
GC SUNS High Performance Manager Dean Robinson says up until now altitude facilities have been designed with a sole purpose in mind - to create a low-oxygen altitude-like atmosphere.
“Altitude training minimises the load required on the musculoskeletal system to provide adaptation of the cardiovascular system along with targeting specific pathways to improve performance,” he said.
“But ours will also have a hyperoxic system built into it.
“This provides the additional stimulus of a higher than normal oxygen percentage and this has many beneficial applications to the improvement of sporting performance. The [additional] system will allow us to further individualise our training, accelerate the training process while at the same time aiding in improving recovery from injury and longevity of career.”
