Gold Coast SUNS utility Jacob Gillbee has delivered some fantastic news just days out from Christmas, recommitting to the Gold Coast SUNS for an additional 12 months.

Gillbee’s contract extension was revealed during a member’s dinner at Metricon Stadium where Gillbee and four of his teammates hosted eight lucky GC SUNS Members and their guests.

GC SUNS, General Manager – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft said he was thrilled to announce Gillbee’s contract extension on the eve of Christmas.

“Jacob is an extremely talented young player who we believe has the ability to make an impact at senior level in 2012.”

“Jacob suffered a hand injury during the 2011 season, hindering his opportunity to earn senior selection earlier in the season.”

Gillbee said he was eager for 2012 to get under way.

“It’s really special to be involved with a club from the beginning and although some parts of last season were frustrating because of my injury, I can’t wait for next season to start.”

“I’m really excited to re-sign with the Gold Coast SUNS, it's a great club to be involved with and I really believe the team will continue to improve next year and beyond.”

Gillbee, who was selected by the GC SUNS with pick 49 at the 2010 National Draft, has signed with the club until the end of the 2013 season.

A clever utility with an uncanny ability to mark strongly under pressure, Gillbee was the GC SUNS 34th AFL debutant in 2011.

He booted one goal and collected eight disposals after starting as the substitute in his first and only game for the season against Hawthorn in Round 24 at Metricon Stadium.

The tenacious and aggressive tackler, who also wins plenty of ball is now one of five Tasmanian’s on the GC SUNS list, with Gillbee, Maverick Weller and Luke Russell being joined by new recruits Henry Schade and Aaron Hall.
