Former Western Bulldog Jarrad Grant had a field day in the SUNS reserves maiden NEAFL win for 2016 on Saturday at Yeronga.

The Lions had no answer for Grant, who booted seven goals, as Gold Coast went on to defeat the Brisbane Lions by 108 points, 21.12 (138) to 3.12 (30).

There were contributors across the board for the SUNS, with Seb Tape (31 disposals) and Luke Russell (35 disposals) providing a perfect mixture of hardness and polish in the midfield to drive their team to victory.

Peter Wright booted three goals and had 11 marks, Dan Currie was dominant in the ruck with another physical performance while a backline led by Jack Leslie, Henry Schade, Jesse Joyce and Mackenzie Willis held firm all day.

“It was our first win for the year so it was a good start for our day,” GC SUNS Head of Development, Matthew Lappin, told SUNS TV.

“We had a really good start to the game, we kept them goalless till half time and we kicked about 12 or 13 goals ourselves so we were able to get the game played on our terms pretty early.

“We had an enjoyable day with lots of guys who put their hand up for senior selection and showed improvement, which was a good result.”
