Midfielder Jamie Stanton has won the Players’ Player award, presented by Harbour Town Premium Outlets, at the SUNS’ 2020 AFLW Club Champion virtual event on Tuesday night.

The award was voted on by the playing group after each match, with players nominating a teammate who they thought performed best in that match, and the votes then being converted into a 3-2-1 format.

Stanton was the club’s first expansion signing after playing at Brisbane and North Melbourne across the three prior AFLW seasons.

The 24-year-old was appointed into the club’s inaugural leadership group where she led alongside co-captains Sam Virgo and Leah Kaslar, as well as Sally Riley and Tiarna Ernst.

Stanton played in every one of the SUNS’ seven matches in 2020, averaging 17 disposals, three marks and four tackles per game.

She also kicked two goals, one in the club’s first ever win in Round 2 against Richmond and another against Geelong in Round 5.

Stanton is one of only a handful of 30-game players in the competition and was nominated for the 2020 Toyota AFLW All Australian squad.

Stanton was one of the club’s three AFLW MVP nominees, another player-voted accolade awarded by the AFLPA.
