Bennell was a significant absentee for the Gold Coast on the eve of their Indigenous Round contest against Hawthorn, after suffering a tight hamstring in the lead-up to the interstate clash.

However, GC SUNS General Manager of Football Operations Marcus Ashcroft says the 20-year-old will be given every opportunity to play this weekend.

“Harley had a tight hamstring last week, he is a good chance to play this week, he just needs to run well today and we think he will be right,” Ashcroft said.

While Hunt is also considered an outside chance to return this weekend, having missed the past three weeks with hamstring tendonitis.

Meanwhile, Steven May is also expected to be tested at Wednesday’s main training session after sustaining a corked thigh in the third quarter against the Hawks on Sunday afternoon.

Ashcroft also confirmed to goldcoastfc.com.au that Jared Brennan (knee) and Jesse Lonergan (hamstring) will not be part of the travelling squad to Simonds Stadium this weekend after scans revealed Brennan sustained a medial ligament injury and will miss the next two weeks while Lonergan is expected to be available after the mid-season break with the 18-year-old set to spend 4-5 weeks on the sidelines.
