POCKET ROCKET Dion Prestia was among the Gold Coast SUNS best on-field performers in the side’s disappointing loss against the Adelaide Crows at Metricon Stadium this afternoon, the hosts going down by 28-points despite dominating the opening term.
Prestia had collected 33 disposals by the three-quarter time break, going onto finish with a career high 42 disposals and two goals as he continually attempted to rally his GC SUNS team mates through what was for a large portion of the encounter, a tight affair.
Speaking exclusively with goldcoastfc.com.au immediately after the final siren,Prestia spoke of his disappointment as the home team suffered another fourth quarter fade out and the wasted early opportunities around goals during the opening period.
“Disappointed not to get the win today but Adelaide were a good team,” said Prestia.
“They were fitter and worked harder in defence, we couldn’t quite finish off our opportunities and could have been up a lot more at quarter-time which was disappointing.”
The recently re-signed pocket rocket praise the efforts of teammates Jaeger O’Meara and Jarrod Harbrow who’s stellar work around the contested stoppages kept the home side in the match, adding his strong performance against All-Australian midfielder Scott Thompson would give him plenty of confidence in the lead-up to the Gold Coast’s QCLASH encounter with the Brisbane Lions next week.
“I tried to match up with Scott Thompson as much as I could and he was a complete ball magnet as he’s showed in the last four times we have battled against him,” said Prestia.
“He took me to a lot more contests than I normally would but I kept trying to get off him as much as I could.
“The week off certainly helped me get my body right.”
With their two-point loss to the Lions in Round 14 still burning raw in the minds of the Gold Coasters, Prestia said the playing group would be ready to roll when the two sides met at the GABBA next week in the sixth instalment of the QCLASH match.
“Another QCLASH and another game we expect to win,” said Prestia.
“Disappointing we couldn’t get the win this week, but hopefully everyone will get up there and support us next week as we look to continue to build on the growing rivalry.”
