If there is one thing Sunny Ray hates. It’s rainy Gold Coast days, sure it’s ok for Gazza and the Victorians in the squad who still strut around in their singlets, but for the rest of us it’s just miserable. Running around in the cold and the wind and the rain, and there’s Bluey standing all smug looking in his Gold Coast SUNS poncho with a little smile on his face that tells you that he is really enjoying himself.
All that said it was a pretty good session, although I have to be honest and admit to a fake hammy strain, just so I could watch the session from the comfort of the stands.
Josh Caddy had an extra spring in his step and from previous weeks, that suggests to me that he could be headed for a dream debut at the MCG.
I couldn’t be happier for Josh though, after being at number 7 he’s had to overcome serious injury and now after being sidelined for much of the season, gets his chance to dance with the Demons.
Right across the squad there is a good feel, and I’m going out on a limb and say were a good chance of turning the tables on the D’s in Melbourne provided we can sustain our efforts over four quarters.
The coaching staff split the quad into 4 groups and the boys competed against each other in a number of drills, I was tempted to get back into the training for these drills as I specialize in personal challenges, had my eye on Karmichael actually. Pretty sure it would have been a case of welcome to the AFL special K if we had faced off, but I’m guessing that test will have to wait until 2012.
Near the end of the session I made my way down to the goals at the big screen end of the ground.
Gary and Nathan Ablett were just about to start a goalkicking competiton from the boundary, the more I spend time with those two, the more I think I could have an Ablett connection, somewhere down the line. Same skills, dedication to training (except on wet days) the similarities are uncanny.
Anyway talk about sibling rivalry, I was called on to make a very important deciaion after Nathan snapped a remarkable goal from the fence, even though gary tried to pressure me into calling it a poster. I am not a cheat Gary I said, now go and buy your brother a 50 cent cone. Yep these guys put it all on the line don’t they? I hope it had a flake stick in it.
Anyway as expected I’ve had the call up and I’ll be on the plane south for the game this weekend, I’ll take my boots, but look out for me in the Cheer Squad.
GO SUNS!!
