Gold Coast SUNS members and supporters are the big winners following a decision by Stadiums Queensland (SQ) to move the 2012 Toyota AFL Premiership match between the Gold Coast SUNS and the Brisbane Lions from the GABBA to Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast.
Originally scheduled to be played at the Gabba on the 21st of July, the relocation of the round seventeen QCLASH encounter to Metricon Stadium provides the Gold Coast SUNS with an eleventh home game at their state of the art venue.
Gold Coast SUNS CEO, Travis Auld saying the decision was a fantastic result for the club’s members and sports fans across the region.
“We are delighted that our supporters will now have the opportunity to watch their team take on the Lions at home on the Gold Coast. Our members have been vocal in their desire to have our Brisbane Lions home game transferred to the Gold Coast and I would like to thank Stadiums Queensland for their cooperation and understanding during a process which has yielded a fantastic result for AFL supporters on the Gold Coast. This decision will also further build the healthy rivalry between us and the Lions into the future.” Mr. Auld said.
Stadiums Queensland confirmed the Gold Coast SUNS recently approached SQ requesting the GC SUNS QClash match be moved from the Gabba to Metricon Stadium, with Stadiums Queenland agreeing to the change of venue.
At a time when thousands of the Clubs supporters are in the process of renewing their Gold Coast SUNS memberships, Auld said Stadium Queensland’s decision to transfer the QCLASH match would play a significant role in continuing the codes growth in South East Queensland.
“We are committed to growing our great game on the Gold Coast, and with the on-going support of the Queensland Government, Stadiums Queensland and the AFL, the Gold Coast will now boast another blockbuster AFL game on the coast. This is another reason for all SUNS and AFL supporters on the Coast to secure their seat in what is shaping up as a really exciting year ahead.”
Gabba Members will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to the event at Metricon Stadium.
