The Gold Coast SUNS helped raise awareness against domestic violence by taking part in the White Ribbon Golf Day on Sunday.

For the second straight year the Gold Coast SUNS are strongly supporting White Ribbon Day on November 25 which helps raise awareness for the fight against Domestic Violence for women and children.

Gold Coast SUNS player Zac Smith, assistant coach Shane O’Bree and community programs officer Corey Bell took part in the golf day and assistant coach Shaun Hart spoke on behalf of the club.

The Gold Coast SUNS support this cause as one of their three main areas of social responsibility on the Gold Coast. The club works in the following areas to participate in activity, raising awareness and funds for the three biggest challenges on the Coast:
• Youth Homeless of the Gold Coast.
• Domestic Violence on the Gold Coast (which has the highest incident rate in Queensland).
• The youth of the Northern Growth Corridor of the Gold Coast by supporting social inclusion, engaging with the community and encouraging the kids to be healthy and active.

The highlight of the day was hearing from Michael Kaufman (the creator of the White Ribbon Concept worldwide) who had arrived from Canada.
Kaufman was inspirational in his quest to end this problem and was very impressed with the amount of support the White Ribbon Campaign has received from the Gold Coast SUNS.

The club donated a signed training singlet for the day which raised well over $400 for the cause.

The winner was a very keen AFL supporter from Palm Beach who couldn’t stop hugging Zac when her name was drawn out.
