We're getting pretty close now and I'd be a liar if I said the butterflies weren't skipping about a touch. Even so it's extremely exciting to know everything we've worked so hard for is on our doorstep and that in just a few days we'll be in our red Gold Coast SUNS polo shirts inside the Gold Coast Convention Centre watching the numbers fall.

We've been over our strategy with the football department several times now and everyone's really confident in the approach we've decided to adopt even if it feels a bit surreal to have two year's worth of work all narrow down to this moment. Naturally enough we're delighted to have so many high picks. It's an amazing opportunity for us and we've got a strong fix on who we want.

What's been really interesting has been watching, listening and reading the various media commentators reports about what's in store at this year's draft. There's been plenty to filter through. This year more than any other I can remember there's been a real buzz in the air about the draft. Everyone has an opinion about who the top prospects will be. Some of those opinions accord with our views, some don't. One prevailing truth, though, is the general feeling that this is a very solid draft with a fairly even spread of talent. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was the deepest draft I've witnessed, and it's definitely not as top heavy as years gone by.

This year's version is just a really good, even list of well credentialed players. So while everyone's talking up the advantages we have with our raft of higher selections, even the sides that did really well last year and who have lower picks are a really strong chance of snagging a really talented kid. Still, we're thrilled to have a glut of top ten choices because even though recruitment is an inexact science, history tells us that we're definitely odds-on of coming away with some extremely special footballers.
