The bond between two of the Gold Coast’s national sporting league clubs was strengthened on Friday as the Gold Coast SUNS’ multi-talented player Karmichael Hunt teamed up with Gold Coast Blaze basketball star Chris Goulding.
As well as their playing shirts, the two star athletes swapped their respective ‘tools of the trade’ and showcased their all-round ball skills in a show of cross-sport support.Goulding was impressive doing his version of ‘dribbling’ a Sherrin, while hoops lover Karmichael Hunt knocked down a number of long range bombs with the basketball, drawing the eye of onlooker and Blaze Head Coach, Joey Wright.
Gold Coast SUNS’ Karmichael Hunt is no stranger to trying his hand at a number of sports, the former Rugby League-turned- Rugby Union-turned AFL player proving he can excel at a fourth sport.
AFL football has recently adapting their defensive philosophies from basketball, as well as tempting some of the country’s best young basketballers to the sport.
Queensland-raised Goulding is no stranger to Aussie Rules football. His father Steve played in the VFL and WAFL, as well as coaching Brisbane side Morningside. So not surprisingly Goulding looked comfortable kicking a football. But it was his skills shooting the AFL ball that intrigued Hunt who, not to be outdone, stepped up to the challenge and nailed a three pointer of his own with the football!
