With exchange week still a week away, the AFL world is buzzing with potential trades.
Fans of all clubs go through mixed emotions during exchange week, the anticipation and excitement of “who will we get” followed by the concern or disappointment of “I don’t want to lose him.”
At the Gold Coast, General Manager, Football Operations Marcus Ashcroft forecasted a relatively quiet trade period for the Gold Coast SUNS.
“Our intention is not to be proactive during exchange week, however if a club approaches us with an offer we will do everything we can to improve our playing list.”
Ashcroft said the GC SUNS wouldn’t deviate from their list management strategy implemented during the clubs list build.
“The clubs priority will always be to ensure we are in a position to extend the playing contracts of our elite young talent.”
He also confirmed that the GC SUNS would look at securing the services of mature age players if the options were presented, however Ashcroft was adamant that it wouldn’t be at the risk of losing a young star in the future.
“We will look at mature age players, but it won’t be at the risk of losing one of our elite youngsters that we believe will play a major role in the direction of the club”
The AFL Exchange period commences on Monday, October, 10 and will conclude at 2pm on Monday, October, 17.
