SUNS co-captain Jarrod Witts capped off another successful season with a third-place finish in Gold Coast’s Club Champion in 2020.

It marks the second-straight year Witts has finished on the podium after previously winning the 2019 Club Champion.

The SUNS ruckman backed up his record-breaking 2019 season by playing all 17 games this year to be one of the club’s most consistent players.

It was a season like no other and Witts, along with fellow co-captain David Swallow, was responsible for leading the players through the challenging circumstances.

The pair performed admirably and Witts, heading into his ninth season in 2021, will be looking to continue his form with another consistent campaign.

Stat that matters:
Witts finished second in the AFL in hitouts in 2020, averaging 28 per game. He also ranked above average in 14 statistical categories amongst other ruckmen.

Best performance:
Witts’ best match came in Round 4 against Fremantle. He had 38 hitouts (15 to advantage) to go with five marks and three clearances.

Moment of the season:
Off the field, this would have to be the arrival of his first son Archie who was born during the COVID shutdown period. Witts was able to spend quality time with Archie and partner Renee during this time which was a blessing in disguise. Upon return to the field, Witts said the victory over West Coast in Round 2 was one of his highlights of the season, responding from the disappointing Round 1 performance with a statement win over a finals contender.
