The Gold Coast SUNS will kick off the 2021 NAB AFL Women’s Premiership Season at Metricon Stadium on Saturday 30 January.

Following yesterday’s announcement that the 2021 NAB AFL Women’s Competition will commence on Thursday January 28, further details of the fixture were locked in today.

The club’s second AFLW campaign will include four home games at Metricon Stadium against the West Coast Eagles, Richmond Tigers, QClash against Brisbane Lions and the final round of the season against North Melbourne.

Head of Women’s Football Fiona McLarty said today’s announcement provided the club with a great opportunity to continue to grow the game in throughout Queensland.

“This is another exciting milestone as we surge towards our second season in the AFLW competition,” McLarty said.

“It’s great news for our members and fans on the Coast, with four matches to be played at Metricon Stadium, providing a great opportunity to come along and support the girls.”

On Saturday 13 February the team will again venture to Great Barrier Reef Arena at Harrup Park in Mackay for a twilight fixture against Carlton in Round 3.

“As part of aim to grow the game throughout Queensland and in working with our partners the Mackay Regional Council, we’re thrilled to head back to Mackay for the third year in a row to play Carlton at Great Barrier Reef Arena.”

SUNS players and staff will also travel to play away games against the Adelaide Crows, St Kilda, GWS Giants and Fremantle.

The nine-round home and away season will be followed by a three-week final’s series, with the Grand Final scheduled to be played on the second weekend of April.

The 14-team competition will see matches played right across the country with a single ladder to be in place for 2021.

All matches will be fully ticketed for the first time as part of the continued progression of the competition and ensuring all venues are COVID-safe.
