Gold Coast defender Jack Bowes has lamented what he sees as four points gone begging after the SUNS were unable to topple West Coast in Perth on Sunday afternoon.
The SUNS were right in the contest against the 2018 premiers, leading by one point heading into the final quarter, before the Eagles broke the shackles and earned the win with a five-goal term.
Despite the promising effort for three quarters, Bowes said the team needed to be better when the game was there to be won.
“Internally we know that’s four points that got away from us,” Bowes told SUNS Media post-match.
“We can work on our polish and connection forward of the footy, but we had our chances to put the nail in the coffin and couldn’t capitalise.”
Individually Bowes was outstanding in his own right on Sunday afternoon, collecting 30 disposals, 28 of which were kicks, at an absurd efficiency rate of 100%.
He said it was important the team bounced back from the Round 1 loss with an emphatic performance against North Melbourne in front of home fans at Metricon Stadium this Saturday.
“We’ve got to bottle this and we’ve got six days to recover,” he said.
“We know that if we bring it for four quarters we can beat any side in the competition.
“We’re going to come out and throw the punch for four quarters.
“This one is going to sting for a bit but we’re looking forward to getting back on the horse… we can’t wait to get into North next week at Metricon Stadium.”
