Gold Coast Football Club Coach Guy McKenna is resting at home after undergoing surgery Saturday morning on his leg which was broken during a intra club practice match on Friday morning.
McKenna is in good spirits given the severity of his injury and has assured the Club he will be back at work as quickly as possible. He is expected to be on crutches for at least six weeks and would be out for the season if he was an AFL player. McKenna snapped both his tibia and fibia in his lower left leg during a dramatic few seconds when he went to spoil a pass intended for GCFC Captain Marc Lock.
The GCFC players stood stunned as their coach bravely lay motionless on the ground before being treated and rushed to hospital.
As soon as he left the ground it was business as usual as the practice match resumed under the watchful eye of Assistant Coaches Ken Hinkley and Shaun Hart.
McKenna’s injury wont impact on any of the GCFC preparations for the upcoming VFL season starting on April 10. While “Bluey” is laid up the club will keep him busy on the phone drumming up new members to reach our 10,000 target!
