Gold Coast SUNS Ruckman Josh Fraser and club mascot SUNNY RAY were on hand at a local AFL primary school competition in May, to officially launch the inaugural Gold Coast SUNS Cup.

The Gold Coast SUNS Cup is a state wide competition co ordinated by AFL Queensland, that encourages Grade 6 and 7 students to play AFL, with the winner set to take out the first ever Gold Coast SUNS Cup.

The competition is the only true state-wide AFL competition run for Primary School students, from AFL and non-AFL backgrounds, and as a result is the most prestigious Primary interschool AFL competition in Queensland.

Formerly known as the Future Stars Cup, the Gold Coast SUNS cup will be run throughout regions all over Queensland with teams from as far north as Cape York and Mt Isa, and south to Northern Rivers of NSW, competing for the title.

Over 2000 participants are expected to take part in the Gold Coast SUNS Cup for 2011.

Regional winners from Pool A, B, C and D will get the chance to compete for the Gold Coast SUNS Cup at Metricon Stadium on Thursday August 4th – 2011.

The championship winning school will receive:

  • The winning school will receive a signed Gold Coast SUNS jumper for 2011
  • Team members of the winning school will receive a Gold Coast SUNS supporters pack
  • The winning school will receive the Gold Coast SUNS Cup - trophy
  • Members of the championship winning team receive a medallion
  • Members of the runners up team will also receive a medallion
  • Team members who participate in the finals receive a PowerAde pack
