The AFL has today advised the Gold Coast SUNS of the finalised fixture for Round 22 of the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

Gold Coast SUNS vs. Essendon will take place at GMHBA Stadium at 3:20pm AEST on Sunday, August 15.

With players and staff currently based in hotel lockdown in Victoria, it has provided some challenges to ensure the season can be completed.

As previously stated, the club had been working with the AFL to obtain permission to return to Queensland under quarantine conditions, with an ability to also train and prepare for the final Round of the premiership season.

Time has subsequently run out to secure those approvals for the scheduling of this weekend’s match, and the game has been fixtured in Geelong at GMHBA Stadium.

AFL Executive General Manager Clubs and Broadcasting Travis Auld said he was pleased the league was able to confirm details for all matches in Round 22.

“As we continue to navigate the challenges presented by the pandemic, we would like to thank all State and Territory Governments, clubs, players, coaches, umpires, staff, AFLPA, broadcast partners and all the families for their continued patience and support.”
