Travis Auld interview on SUNS TV
The Gold Coast SUNS and Nathan Bock today accepted the sanctions handed down by the AFL following an investigation into the betting activity of a member of Nathan’s family and a friend prior to the clubs Round 24 game against Hawthorn at Metricon Stadium.
GC SUNS CEO Travis Auld said Bock fully cooperated with the AFL’s investigation and both the GC SUNS and Nathan accept the penalty.
“Nathan is extremely disappointed that he has let himself, the club and importantly the game down by carelessly but not intentionally disclosing confidential information.”
“He, without question, accepts the penalty imposed by the AFL and is committed to educating his teammates in the future.”
“Despite Nathan’s careless error of judgement, it is important to note that Nathan did not benefit from the proceeds of a bet or place a bet himself.”
Auld confirmed Bock raised the matter with the club following the match and in turn, Nathan and the GC SUNS notified the AFL’s integrity officer.
“The integrity of our game is of the utmost importance, and the AFL rules in respect to gambling reflect this. As a club we support the AFL rules and the enforcement of those rules.”
Auld added that apart from Bock’s error of judgment, he had acted appropriately as a leader of the club.
“Nathan has been open and honest throughout the investigation and, apart from his careless disclosure of information, he has acted in an appropriate way as a leader of our club.”
Bock said he is deeply regretful of his comments.
“In accepting the penalty I would like to take this opportunity to apologies to the Gold Coast Football Club and our supporters, as well as the AFL and all followers of the game.
“As innocent and careless as my comments were at the time, I understand that the integrity of the game can’t be jeopardised.
Auld said that the club will continue to work with the AFL to ensure the integrity of the game remains paramount and said the club was committed further educating the GC SUNS playing group.
