The Gold Coast SUNS have fallen short in Saturday morning’s VFL clash against the Brisbane Lions.

The Lions kicked four goals to none in the final term, reversing a 14-point SUNS lead at three-quarter time to win 12.10 (82) to 11.7 (73).

The SUNS controlled the majority of proceedings, kicking out to a game-high 33-point lead late in the second quarter on the back of four goals in as many minutes.

Lachlan Gulbin’s goal late in the third term would be the hosts’ only major after half-time as the Lions kicked eight of the game’s final nine goals.

Zak Evans kicked a game-high three goals while Jed Walter was impactful early, kicking two majors in the opening term. James Tsitas (33 disposals), David Swallow (27 disposals), Ben Jepson (26, one goal) and Lloyd Johnston were the SUNS’ ball major winners.

StreetSmarts SUNS Academy prospect Zeke Uwland also played his first game of 2025, finishing with 13 disposals and a couple of tackles.

The SUNS remain on the Gold Coast for another week, taking on Richmond as part of a triple header alongside the club’s AFL & AFLW sides. VFL first bounce is at 12:25pm, followed by the AFL at 4:15pm and an AFLW practice match against Geelong at 8pm.
