Versatile key position player Tayla Gregory has joined the Gold Coast SUNS on the eve of the 2025 AFLW season.

Gregory joins the club as an injury replacement player for Heidi Talbot who will be sidelined for the season with a shoulder injury which requires surgery.

The 28-year-old becomes the newest SUN just weeks after starring for Queensland in the State Game against Tasmania, following several impressive campaigns for Southport in the QAFLW.

After forming a key part of the Sharks’ 2024 QAFLW premiership winning side, Gregory has featured in Southport’s best on nine occasions in 2025, in addition to a best-on-ground display for Queensland earlier this month, where she finished with 31 hitouts and 23 disposals.

Standing at 184cm, Gregory’s strengths lie in her work in the air, both as a marking target inside forward 50 and ability to get first hands to the ball in midfield.

“We’re thrilled to see Tayla earn an opportunity to move onto our AFLW list,” GC SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said.

“She has been integrated within our group for a period of time now as a train-on player and her commitment to getting the best out of herself and those around her has been fantastic to see.

“She’s had a great year in the QAFLW with Southport, and whilst representing Queensland a few weeks ago as well, and we couldn’t be more happy to provide her with the opportunity to continue building at the top level.”

Gregory is in the mix to feature for the first time in SUNS colours in Saturday night’s practice match against Geelong at People First Stadium.

Gold Coast’s AFLW campaign gets underway in Perth on Thursday, August 14 against the West Coast Eagles.
