Noah Anderson and Matt Rowell are the SUNS’ version of “Batman and Robin”.
And if we continue that analogy in the world of television fame, that means Ben King is ‘Alfred’, the dynamic duo’s unassuming butler who goes about his business with minimum fuss and maximum reliability.
Lifetime best mates drafted together in 2019 and key figures in the club’s climb to the AFL finals for the first time, Anderson and Rowell have headed a brutal 2025 SUNS assault on the AFL statistics file and the club record books.
Anderson has had 694 possessions this season to rank #2 in the League behind Collingwood’s Nick Daicos (699) and top the SUNS record of 680 set last year by Sam Flanders.
Rowell has had 195 clearances to rank #1 in the League and smash his own club record of 185 set last year, and 200 tackles to rank #2 in the League behind Geelong’s Tom Atkins (205) and beat the club record of 190 he set in 2023.
Atkins broke the AFL record for most tackles in a season held previously by West Coast’s Scott Selwood (202), while Rowell is now 3rd on this list. Astonishingly, he boasts the top five single-season tackle counts in SUNS history.
Also, King’s career-high seven goals against Essendon in Round 24 has given him 69 goals for the season to finish second in the Coleman Medal behind Geelong’s Jeremy Cameron (83) and better the SUNS record of 66 set by Tom Lynch in 2016.
Having kicked 7-1 against the Bombers, King finished the season with 69-19, including an astonishing 28-2 in the last eight games. Among players who kicked a minimum 20 goals his conversion rate of 68.3% was second only to the 24-8 (68.6%) of North’s Jack Darling.
King’s 101 shots on goal was 4th in the League behind Cameron (138), Port’s Mitch Georgiades (112) and Hawthorn’s Jack Gunston (112). Bulldog Aaron Naughton (100) was 5th.
And King’s 64 marks inside 50 was equal 4th with Gunston, behind Cameron and Georgiades (74). Ben Long (56) was 8th and 5th for marks on the lead. He had XX.
